Epoch ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our mobile and web applications. Epoch is a one-time purchase app ($3.99) with no subscription or recurring fees.
1. Information We Collect
Data You Provide
- App Activity: Bookmarked events, quiz history, daily streak, and last-viewed day
- Preferences: Theme choice (dark/light) and other display settings
- Contact Information: Name and email when you contact support
No Account Required
Epoch does not require you to create an account or log in. The historical event corpus ships inside the app, so there is nothing to sign up for and no personal profile to maintain. Epoch does not request access to your microphone, camera, contacts, or location.
2. How We Store Your Data
Local Storage Only: Your bookmarks, quiz history, streak, and preferences are stored locally on your device using browser local storage (web) or app storage (mobile) under the epoch.v1 namespace. We do not store this data on our servers.
This means:
- ✅ Your data never leaves your device
- ✅ We cannot access your bookmarks, streak, or quiz history
- ✅ App works completely offline
- ⚠️ Data is tied to your device — clearing app data or uninstalling removes it
3. How We Use Your Information
We use information only for:
- Providing core app functionality (daily events, Explore map, quizzes, bookmarks)
- Remembering your streak, saved events, and preferences between sessions
- Responding to your support requests
We do NOT:
- ❌ Sell your data to third parties
- ❌ Display advertisements
- ❌ Track you across websites or apps
- ❌ Require account creation or login
- ❌ Access your microphone, camera, contacts, or location
4. Third-Party Services
None. The Epoch app does not connect to any third-party services. The event corpus and all quiz, map, and bookmark logic run entirely on your device. There are no analytics, no external APIs, and no network requests required for the app to function.
5. Cookies and Tracking
We do not use cookies for tracking.
We use essential browser storage (localStorage) to save your bookmarks, streak, and preferences. This is local storage for app functionality — not tracking.
6. Data Security
- HTTPS encryption for the website
- No server-side storage of personal data
- All app data stays on-device
- Secure contact form handling via Formspree
7. Children's Privacy
Epoch is suitable for all ages and is an educational history app. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe your child has provided personal information through the contact form, please email epoch@ldcoda.com.
8. Your Rights
- Access: All app data is stored locally on your device
- Deletion: Clear all data in Settings → Data management, or uninstall
- Correction: Add or remove bookmarks and reset progress directly in the app
- Data Portability: All data lives on your device under your control

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Epoch after changes constitutes acceptance.
