Privacy Policy

In short: your streak, saved events and quiz scores stay on your device. Epoch has no account, no ads, no analytics and no tracking, and it never sends your data anywhere.
1. Who we are
Epoch is made by LD Coda, LLC ("we", "us"). This policy covers the Epoch app and this website, epoch.ldcoda.com. Epoch has no subscription.
2. What the app stores, and where
Epoch keeps a small record in the app's own storage on your device, and nowhere else:
- your day streak and the date you last opened the app
- the events you save, and the events you have opened (up to 500, for Recently read)
- your Then or Now daily scores and how many games you have played
- your theme, dark or light
Epoch does not ask for your name, email address, location, contacts or photos, and there is no account to create.
3. What the app sends
Nothing. The events, the world map and the fonts are inside the app, so it works offline. There are no ad, analytics, crash-reporting or tracking libraries in the app; we checked the 1.2.4 build for them.
The internet is used only when you tap a link, which opens in your browser: Read on Wikipedia and Learn more (Wikipedia), the Creative Commons licence page, and this website from Settings. Those sites receive your visit like any other, under their own privacy policies.
When you share a Then or Now score, Epoch passes a short line of text with your score and a row of squares to your phone's share sheet or clipboard. Where it goes from there is up to you.
4. Permissions
Epoch asks you for no permissions. On Android, two are granted at install without asking: internet access, and a private permission that only lets Epoch's own components talk to each other. Epoch does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, photos or notifications.
5. Deleting your data
In the app, Settings → Danger zone → Reset all data erases your streak, saved events, reading history and quiz history (your theme stays). Uninstalling Epoch, or clearing its storage in your phone's settings, removes everything.
6. This website
This site sets no cookies and runs no analytics or trackers. Its pages, fonts and images come from epoch.ldcoda.com; the App Store and Google Play badges are images loaded from Apple and Google.
- Newsletter: if you sign up, your email address goes to LD Coda's mailing list, hosted on Amazon Web Services. You can unsubscribe at any time.
- Contact form: what you type is sent through Formspree, which emails it to us. We use it only to reply.
7. Children
Epoch is a history app suitable for all ages, and the app collects no personal information. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this website; if you think a child has sent us their details, email info@ldcoda.com and we will delete them.
8. Your rights (GDPR and CCPA)
- Access and portability: the app's data is on your device, under your control.
- Deletion: use Reset all data or uninstall the app; for newsletter or contact-form data, email us.
- Legal basis: your consent for the newsletter and contact form.
- Retention: app data stays on your device until you delete it; contact-form messages are kept for up to 2 years.
- No sale of data: we do not sell or share personal information.
- Complaints: you can contact your local data protection authority.

If this policy changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
