Deep dive

Made for a daily minute.

Every figure below comes from the app itself. The crops are real screens of Epoch; the map behind the title is an illustration drawn from the app's own data.

01 — On This Day

Today, newest first.

Epoch opens on today's date. The first eight entries mix the last fifty years with the day's top-ranked moments from further back, and Load more adds more, up to 32 a day. Tap a card and the full text opens, with a link to its Wikipedia day page.

02 — Explore

Scrub five thousand years.

Explore puts the curated events on a world map, each in its region and coloured by category. Drag the year, tap an era to jump, or press play. Pins that crowd together stack, with the most common category in front. The map ships inside the app, so it works offline.

03 — Quizzes

Four ways to test what stuck.

Your first Then or Now game each day is the Daily: eight pairs, pick the event that came first. Play again for practice. Chronology Challenge deals four events to put in order, and the two map quizzes explain every answer.

04 — Saved

Keep what stays with you.

Tap the star on any card or story to save it. Saved is searchable, and Recently read lists the events you opened.

05 — The story

Every moment opens up.

A story shows its category, country and year, an impact rating, and buttons to save it, learn more on Wikipedia or see it on the map. On This Day entries link their Wikipedia day page, and many link the same event in Epoch's own collection.

Where do the events come from?
On This Day comes from Wikipedia's day pages (CC BY-SA 4.0), with events since 1976 merged in. Explore and the quizzes use Epoch's own curated set of 7,880 events, each rated for impact from 1 to 5.

How does the daily quiz work?
